Govindgovind jhara

Many many years ago, Govind Jhara created the karma tree. A tree of life. An expression of the un-inhibited oneness with nature that is an essential part of tribal life. An evolution from the votive tribal images used in central India.

Govind is from Ektal village in Chattisgarh, he is a master craftsman creating a variety of forms and images in bell metal, using the ancient technique of cire perdue or lost-wax casting.

We are eternally indebted to the creative energies of people like Jhara. A people whose lives are constantly under threat from civilisational or developmental projects like the Narmada Dam.

Jhara’s Karma Tree so perfectly fit the name “people tree”, that we adapted it to create our logo.
